Scientist Albert Einstein and classical singer Marian Anderson are both well-known in their own right, but not many people know about their unlikely friendship. When Marian (played by the current First Lady of Denver, Mary Louise Lee) visits Princeton University to perform, she is denied a hotel room because she is African American. Instead, a professor—Albert Einstein—invites her to stay at his home. The two form a bond that explores ideas of faith, racial tensions, and the nexus of science and art. Directed by Aurora Fox Art Center’s executive producer Helen R. Murray, this updated production features music directly from Marian’s songbook, including some of her most famous spirituals, operatic arias, and traditional American songs, such as “My Lord, What A Morning.”
