A Rap on Race

Newman Center for the Performing Arts
2344 E. Iliff Ave.
Denver, CO 80208

In 1970, two giants of the American intelligentsia—author James Baldwin and anthropologist Margaret Mead—appeared in New York for a public conversation about perennially relevant social issues such as identity, power, race, gender, and religion. Now, nearly five decades later, this avant-garde show recreates parts of that momentous discussion. The innovative performance includes segments of lively dialogue interspersed with dance numbers by world-renowned performers from Seattle-based Spectrum Dance Theater.
