The challenge to find the best of the best of America’s favorite cuisine has begun. At this Kansas City Barbeque Society–sanctioned event, more than 70 pit masters will compete in barbecue categories including pork, ribs, chicken, brisket, sauce, and “anything goes” to impress a panel of judges and take home the prize. If you aren’t a dedicated carnivore, spend the day touring the Breckenridge Distillery, cheering on little porkers during the pig races, and breaking a sweat in the Bacon Burner 6K race.
