Author Gregory Crouch tells the story of forgotten American folk hero John McCay in his recently released book The Bonanza King. McCay was a penniless Irish immigrant when he moved West looking for good fortune. He arrived in the Rocky Mountain region just before the area’s peak mining era, and even after amassing one of the world’s largest fortunes never lost his appetite for a day in the shafts. At this illuminating talk, Crouch will sign copies of the book and discuss his research on the mining mogul whose legacy begs a worthy question: What type of people does history remember?
