A History of Black Firefighters in the Denver Fire Department

303-892-1436

Denver Firefighters Museum
1326 Tremont Pl.
Denver, CO 80204

Lunch counters and city buses may be some of the most potent symbols of America’s segregated past, but have you ever considered how race relations affected our first responders? In celebration of Black History Month, this exhibition uses photos and artifacts to illustrate the history of Denver’s black firefighters—from their separate-but-equal origins in the 19th century to today.
