Operas often have tragic plots, but this world-premiere work culls a happy ending from its start in a World War II concentration camp. Based on the true story of Jaap Polak and Ina Soep—and brought to the Centennial State by Opera Colorado’s music director, Ari Pelto—this production follows two young Dutch Jews as they meet and fall in love amid the horrors of the German death camp Bergen-Belsen. The cast is led by acclaimed performers, such as soprano Inna Dukach, baritone Gideon Dabi, and University of Colorado Boulder voice instructor Andrew Garland.
