Kyle Bachus won his first argument in front of the state supreme court when he was only 17 years old.
As part of a Florida state legislation day for students, he argued a predetermined topic in front of a panel of licensed lawyers sitting on a mock supreme court. Selected as one of the best presenters of the day statewide, he was both surprised and inspired.
The determination Kyle’s opponents see in the courtroom today was nurtured in college. After he graduated with his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Florida College of Law, he began work the Monday after graduation in a plaintiff’s personal injury law firm, a natural fit for a man who had always identified with the underdog.
In 1996, Kyle and fellow lawyer Darin Schanker opened Bachus & Schanker, LLC with little more than a tiny, rented office and a lot of determination. Starting with less than $15,000, their business has grown into one of the largest, most well respected personal injury firms in the region.
The firm continues to focus on personal injury law but over the years the practice has expanded its practice groups, which now include national plaintiff's litigation addressing a variety of defective medical devices, products and dangerous drugs, workers' compensation, Social Security disability and plaintiff's employment law including wage and hour class action work.
An advocate in the courtroom, the legislature and the community, Kyle has worked to fight injustice and protect Colorado consumers. In 2013, Kyle led the Bachus & Schanker trial team in achieving the largest personal injury verdict in the state of Colorado. Through his work with legislation, he has been able to help change Colorado laws to benefit all residents. He is deeply involved in the community through the firm’s foundation and also his pro-bono work; helping one of the emergency medical responders who suffered disabling injuries in the 9/11 attacks is one of Kyle’s most inspiring wins.
For the past ten years, Kyle has served as the co-chair of the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association Auto Litigation Committee. Lawdragon (a national legal publication) lists Kyle as one of "The Top 500 Leading Personal Injury Lawyers in America." He has been named every year since 2007 to the list of Colorado Super Lawyer as well as to the list of “Colorado’s Top Lawyers” in the field of plaintiff’s personal injury law. Additionally, Law Week named Kyle the Top Class Action Lawyer in Colorado in 2014. Kyle has also been recognized as an AV-rated attorney and “pre-eminent lawyer” -- the highest rating assigned to individual attorneys by Martindale Hubbell, the nation’s oldest and most prestigious attorney rating service.
