In 2019, the Colorado Immigrant Rights Coalition (CIRC) assisted over 600 lawful permanent residents in filling out their applications to become U.S. Citizens.
Among the community members assisted was Alejandra Torres, who was born and raised in Chihuahua, Mexico and brought to the U.S. by her parents at age 16. She’s been a Legal Permanent Resident for 9 years and is mother to three U.S. Citizen children. When asked what her hopes and dreams are once she becomes a U.S. Citizen, she said:
“I just graduated from the IT program at Metropolitan State University of Denver with a degree in International Healthcare Administration, and if I want to work for the government, let’s say the U.N., I need to be a Citizen. This and my children, they need me to be here for them; these things motivated me to apply to become a U.S. Citizen today.” We believe in building a Colorado that celebrates and welcomes people from all over the world.
