Habitat for Humanity of Metro Denver has been building and preserving affordable homeownership since 1979. Habitat partners with hardworking, local families who need a hand up (not a hand out) to build or improve a place they can call home.
This year marks Habitat’s 40th anniversary of building homes, communities and hope in our community. Habitat Metro Denver is ranked the sixth largest Habitat affiliate in the United States, and has ambitious plans to serve more than 160 local families this year.
It’s no secret that the need for affordable housing in Denver is staggering. In the last six years home prices in metro Denver have increased 72%, while wages only rose 12%.
Essential members of Denver’s workforce – like teachers, police officers, and nurses – are now struggling to afford to live in the city that they’ve long been able to call home. Habitat is working to address this need by partnering with hardworking families who are empowered to invest their own time, energy and resources in order to become homeowners.
Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. In addition to building new homes, Habitat partners with existing low-income homeowners on home repairs, helping to ensure homes remain safe and affordable.
Through four decades of work, Habitat knows that owning a stable home has a ripple effect on families’ lives that impacts education, health and financial stability.
“I can honestly say that because Habitat provided stability – it helped me secure a future,” shares Naiely, who moved into her Habitat home as a teenager. “In the first year of living in our new home, my GPA went from a 1.6 to a 3.7.”
Every donation makes a difference this holiday season. Thank you for helping Habitat for Humanity build brighter futures.
