The Face of Fox Street Neighborhood

Crafty Fox & U Lucky Dog

The three dozen workers at Crafty Fox Taphouse & Pizzeria tend to talk a lot about ingredients, environment and improvement. These are big topics for restaurants. But at Crafty Fox, more often than not, the topics extend beyond the great pizza, the warm interior design and the latest updates to the menu. The real topic at Crafty Fox is the sense of community, and how the restaurant fits into the Fox Street Neighborhood.

The critical “ingredients” at Crafty Fox are the aspects that make Crafty Fox such an integral part of the community’s fabric, and the environment is the way the restaurant helps make the area more livable. The improvement is the constant emphasis on “giving back” to the community in the form of aid for the people who need it or deserve it.
That culture starts with the Face of the Fox Street Neighborhood, Crafty Fox owner Angelique Salazar. She is a community member first, and a businesswoman second, although the success of the second role has had a huge impact on the first. She also runs nearby U Lucky Dog, also located on Fox Street (an award-winning dog daycare and boarding facility that employs 64 people); she was instrumental in the development and launch of the Fox Street Shops. She is the daughter of Rob & Lola Salazar, of the Salazar Family Foundation. Appropriately enough, her Dad grew up just blocks from the site where the restaurant now sits.

“The more involved I get in the Fox Street Neighborhood, the more excited I get about the potential to support the people who live and work in that area,” she said. “If a small part of my enthusiasm translates into additional vibrancy here, I’ll feel like I have fulfilled a mission.”

You can find Angelique behind the bar at Crafty Fox, or checking in dogs at U Lucky Dog; you won’t want to miss the chance to ask her about the neighborhood.
