“When I was 7 years old, I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.” says Dana Davis. “This inspired my parents to create the Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes (BDC), a top-notch diabetes care and research facility, along with the Children’s Diabetes Foundation (CDF), a nonprofit to raise funds for the BDC. My journey started with something negative, but it became a positive because my family turned it into an opportunity to help millions of people.”
The Children’s Diabetes Foundation is the fundraising arm of the Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes (BDC) and focuses on patient support, diabetes research, and public awareness. BDC is an incredible force in the diabetes world. It’s a world-class center with top doctors, cutting-edge research, and passionate patient care teams. The Children’s Diabetes Foundation is able to supplement programs and funds to improve every patient’s life.
The BDC is the largest clinical contributor to get diabetes technology out in the marketplace. And every patient that comes to the Barbara Davis Center can receive care, no matter their ability to pay highlighting that BDC doctors have a profound love, care, and commitment for each of their patients’ personal health and well-being.
“I’ve lived with type 1 diabetes for 43 years now. Most people don’t know that type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease. I didn’t do anything to cause it like eat too much sugar or not exercise.” says Dana Davis. “It’s not easy, but I’m able to live a normal, happy life. This disease will make you stronger than you could have ever imagined!”
