Color has always been king at Big Chill, the Boulder-based maker of design-forward, professional-grade kitchen appliances. Back in 2001, the brand made a splash with its debut collection of retro-style, vibrantly colored fridges, still available in hues like Jadeite Green, Pink Lemonade, and Buttercup Yellow. The current, expanded offering includes fridges, dishwashers, microwaves, stoves, hoods, and wall ovens in more than 200 delicious hues and two additional styles—the modern Pro series and traditional Classic line.

Now, just in time for lockdown-inspired home redesigns, Big Chill has taken its color crusade a step further with the launch of its Spring Edit, a fresh palette of four custom colors created in collaboration with interior designer Kate Marker, owner and principal of Barrington, Illinois–based Kate Marker Interiors. The hues—creamy Oyster, modern Light Grey, moody-chic Telegray, and classic Pigeon Blue—are quiet, neutral, and “aimed at the idea of creating a bit of respite through design,” says Big Chill’s president, Hillary Frei.

In other words, perfect for color-curious homeowners wary of going too bold, too quickly. “We aim to make each palette a lens through which to see each of our products differently, and to enable customers to see how colorful appliances across the rainbow can work in their homes,” Frei explains. “We knew that we wanted a collaborator who could truly show our customers how to think outside of the box at varying scales—from using Oyster on a fridge instead of a standard white, to [making] bolder selections, like Pigeon Blue. Kate was a natural fit for this job.”

“The Spring Edit palette plays softly together, and while subdued, each color has a presence on its own,” Marker adds. “The colors do not follow one specific trend. Each individually—and as a collection—complements a large variety of wood tones, marble or stone, and metal finishes, making them a beautiful addition to any kitchen or space.”

The Spring Edit palette is available on appliances in Big Chill’s Classic Collection, where the colors can be paired with trims in brushed brass, brushed copper, chrome, or satin nickel finishes. A custom color upcharge ranges from $75–$200. The new hues are shoppable online now at bigchill.com.
