No one on the Front Range is more deserving of the chef-farmer moniker than Eric Skokan, co-owner of Black Cat Farm in Boulder County: Skokan grows more than 90 percent of the food being cooked and served at his bistro. (You can also taste Skokan’s bounty at his more casual cafe, Bramble and Hare, located next door.) Black Cat Farm Table Bistro is a quirky place, with linen curtains hanging between its tables and sheepskins draped across the chair backs, but it’s also welcoming and warm, as is the service. Skokan’s food tastes as fresh and vibrant as ingredients tend to when they’ve been harvested just hours before supper. And the wine selection, curated by wine director Drew Duggan, is deep and varied. If you explore Black Cat’s full range of offerings, the bill may make you wince, but the true value of generous portions, pro hospitality, and thoughtfully prepared food grown mere miles away? That’s priceless. $$$$, 1964 13th St., Boulder, 303-444-5500
