Broncos: Back at the Draft

|

Headlines involving the Denver Broncos have lately been about the guys leaving the team (read: Brandon Marshall and Tony Scheffler). But today, Denver begins the process of moving on by adding new players.

The Broncos have the 11th pick in the three-day NFL draft, set to begin tonight from Radio City Music Hall in New York. As the Colorado Springs Gazette points out, it’s anyone’s guess what the Broncos will do when their turn on the clock comes up. Along with the 11th pick, the Broncos have the 43rd and the 45th picks, giving them three in the first two rounds and the chance to dramatically improve the talent level of the team.

Head coach Josh McDaniels was roundly criticized for a lackluster draft in 2009, which he says was rushed due to his hiring coming just a few months before the draft. This year, he and Broncos general manager Brian Xanders have had a full year to coordinate a strategy to determine what the team really needs. Colorado Sports Desk thinks the Broncos should use the 11th overall pick to take inside linebacker Rolando McClain from Alabama, the type of defender who has the chance to excel in the 3-4 defensive alignment the Broncos favor.

In other Broncos news, attorneys for Willie Clark, who was recently convicted of killing former Bronco Darrent Williams, are seeking a new trial, according to The Denver Post.
