Apres-ski normally includes kicking off your boots, sitting by a fire, and picking up a cold beverage. We’ll agree this is a complete necessity following a hard day on the slopes. But, this isn’t the last chapter after lifts closes down.
Most 9-to-5ers on the Front Range battle the I-70 traffic for weekends on the hills, which leaves five days in-between ski weekends. Highland’s The Dailey Method has classes for all the off-days to maintain and build your muscles for longer, less tired powder days. The hour-long classes are based around yoga, Pilates, and orthopedically correct exercises.
“People who do intense exercise, often don’t stretch enough,” says owner Carrie Krane. The movements in the Dailey Method classes focus on strengthening, stretching, and alignment.
Strengthening: Think the dreaded elementary school wall sit, except there is no wall and you have to make tiny movements up and down. The deep holds and small range of motion will do wonders for you thighs to make turns in the steep ‘n’ deep.
Stretching: After you use and abuse your body all weekend on the slopes, routine stretching of your knees, quads, and hamstrings will mean less day-after soreness.
Alignment: To avoid monotony, each class works the same muscles in different ways. The balanced approach—including targeted knee tracking—reinforces the best form to avoid injuries.
Krane says the “magic number” is to get into three weekday classes to build endurance and curtail potential on-mountain troubles. For new members, the first class is always free.
