Colorado I Have a Dream 26th Annual Gala: For only $484, the Colorado “I Have a Dream” Foundation can provide 10 children with an after-school program for an entire month. This is just one way the foundation helps Denver’s most at-risk youth succeed through its 12-year program of mentoring, academic assistance, life-skills development, cultural enrichment, and scholarships for higher education. The gala will feature entertainment by Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Troupe and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, along with a keynote speech from president of Washington State University, Dr. Elson S. Floyd. Thu 5:30 p.m.; Hyatt Regency Denver at Colorado Convention Center, 650 15th St.

2014 80’s Ski Party: Channel the ‘80s—aka the most colorful period of ski wear—for an epic party aiding First Descents, an organization on a mission to empower young cancer fighters and survivors through a free outdoor adventure experience. The gnarly ticket includes free beer while supplies last, drink specials, and a balloon drop filled with possible prizes. Sat 8 p.m.-2 a.m.; Mile High Station, 2027 Old West Colfax Ave.

Denver Gorilla Run: Halloween will have come and passed, but you can still dress up as a gorilla for this 5K fun run for a cause. Benefiting the Mountain Gorilla Conservation Fund, every participant receives a Gorilla suit to keep even after the day’s events are over. But don’t be shy about making the suit your own—there will be a contest awarding the most creative costume. Once you’ve crossed the finish line, head over to the Great Silverback after party or spend the rest of the day at the Denver Zoo, where entry is free with run registration. Sun 9 a.m.; City Park, 17th Ave. and Colorado Blvd.
