Get Involved: Pharmaca’s Holiday Gift Bag Program

Throughout the month of December, you can help this integrative pharmacy supply much-needed items to local charities. Here's how.

The season of charitable giving has begun. But despite all the do-gooding and gift giving taking place around the holidays, it’s important to remember that Colorado’s business, philanthropic organizations, and nonprofits work tirelessly all year to positively impact the community and help improve statistics like this one: 13 percent of Colorado residents live below the poverty threshold.

One business working to change this particular number is Pharmaca, a Boulder-based chain of health stores that offers alternative medicines like homeopathy alongside traditional pharmacy services. In May, when its latest Colorado store opened in Greenwood Village, 5 percent of the sales from its first day of business went to a local branch of TLC Meals on Wheels, which provides healthy food to senior citizens.

Last month, Pharmaca kicked off the eighth year of its Holiday Gift Bag Donation Program, during which staffers fill bags with personal care products like diapers and body wash to give to local charities. (The Greenwood Village location is donating to domestic violence shelter SafeHouse Denver this year.) Last year, the initiative contributed more than $90,000 in health and wellness supplies to those in need—no small feat for a company with less than 30 stores throughout the region.

For companies like Pharmaca and many others around Colorado, helping others isn’t a seasonal trend—it’s a ceaseless mission. And our state’s charitable citizens are well-suited to help them make an impact.

How you can help: Shoppers can purchase bags of Pharmaca healthcare products for donations of $10, $15, or $25 at four store locations throughout Colorado until Christmas Day, when staff members will deliver them to various charities. For locations, times, and more information, visit pharmaca.com.
