“Grab” Food Faster at DIA

A new app lets you take the express route to popular airport eats.

Dining at Denver International Airport just got easier. In April, the major travel hub joined six other U.S. airports in a partnership with Grab, a mobile app for the hungry traveler. Users can now place express pickup orders from several full-service and fast-casual restaurants within the airport, including Boulder Beer Tap House (Jeppesen Terminal, Level 5 West), Lefty’s Colorado Trail Grille (Terminal A), and Schlotzsky’s Deli (Terminal A). More eateries are expected to join in the near future.

Restaurants on Grab offer an express pickup line for to-go orders—a boon to time-strapped travelers. The Houston-based convenience app matches travelers with dining options based on their terminal and gate number. It also allows users to forward or save their receipts for easy expense reporting. On the retailer’s side, Grab makes it easier for restaurants to deliver more accurate information in real time, such as updating wait times and unavailable entrées.

Chef Johnny Nizze of the Boulder Beer Tap House says the app’s implementation hasn’t caught on with customers as quickly as anticipated, but those who have used the app since its DIA launch were happy with their experience.

“[Grab] might help facilitate our to-go ordering system and save some folks time,” he says. “It’s a great concept, so I’d just give it a little more time to catch on.”

Grab currently works with nearly 60 restaurants in seven U.S. airports including Denver, and is set to roll out at 12 more in the next year.
