The 5280 Guide to Lunch in LoDo

Eat cheap (and well) in one of Denver's hottest 'hoods.

Only about 20 percent of office workers regularly leave their desks for lunch. Most either skip lunch breaks altogether or eat in their cubicles, which is why your keyboard looks like that. Lunching with your computer is sad no matter where you are, but especially if you’re in LoDo, an area that’s seen a boom in tasty midday destinations over the past four years. Here’s hoping one of these will lure you out the door.

1. Honor Society

Go There: When you want elevated cuisine at a fast-casual pace.

Eat the: Sustainably raised cedar-plank salmon with vadouvan honey-glazed baby carrots and Easter egg radishes.

Go There: For quick, home-style Chinese cooking.

Eat the: Dim sum, bao buns, and classic zha jiang mian noodles topped with pork and soybean sauce.

Go There: To impress clients with one of the finest fresh-fish menus in the city.

Eat the: Lobster roll on griddled brioche. Celebrate a closed deal with a glass of Pierre Gerbais Cuvée de Réserve from the restaurant’s 10-bottle sparkling wine list.

4. Hopdoddy Burger Bar

Go There: To pair your casual Friday with custom creations at a laid-back burger spot.

Eat the: Buffalo Bill burger made with bison, apple-smoked bacon, blue jack cheese, Frank’s RedHot sauce, and Sassy Sauce (a mixture of mayo and house-made horseradish honey mustard). And start the almost-weekend right with a caramel and sea-salt milkshake for dessert.

5. Komotodo Sushi Burrito

Go There: When you can’t decide between sushi and burritos.

Eat the: Sunrise Sumo (yellowfin tuna, surimi crab, and house-made peanut sauce) sushi burrito with avocado fries.

Go There: To score a healthy noodle, rice, or salad bowl made (to go) from locally sourced ingredients by chef Troy Guard.

Eat the: Hawaii Five-0 bowl with sushi-grade raw salmon, hearts of palm, soybeans, shiitake mushrooms, raw fennel, soy-onion dressing, and bubu (a Japanese rice cracker).

7. Rhein Haus

Go There: For hearty German fare in a beer-hall atmosphere. If it’s warm, snag an outside table and people-watch with your favorite colleagues.
