Time To Plan Your Summer Vacation

Forget layovers: Two new nonstop flights from DIA are the perfect excuse to take some time off.

By |

There are so many places around the world I want to visit that I often find myself overwhelmed when trying to decide how to best use my vacation time. One thing that helps me narrow down my options: easy flights. Which means I keep a close eye on what direct flights Denver International Airport is adding. Forget annoying layovers: Here are the two locales we have our eyes on this summer.

Charleston, South Carolina

There’s a reason Southern Living named Charleston the South’s best city in 2017. From top-notch restaurants to a vibrant arts scene to classical architecture that’s sure to rack up Instagram likes and endless shopping options, the port city should be on everyone’s must-visit list. Southwest Airlines recognized the draw and is converting its weekly service from the Mile High City into daily flights starting June 4.

San Luis Obispo County, California

Located halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles, San Luis Obispo County is often overshadowed by the big cities. But the coastal area has plenty to offer travelers: the Paso Robles, Edna Valley, and Arroyo Grande wine regions; surfing, SUP, and wildlife viewing along the Pacific Ocean; and year-round farmers’ markets. Plus, it’s now easier than ever to get there. United Airlines will launch once-a-week direct flights (operated by SkyWest Airlines) on June 8.

Plan Ahead: Travelers, rejoice. Low-cost carrier Norwegian will start offering one-way flights from DIA to London Gatwick in September for as little as $199. (Make sure to pay attention to the fine print as fees on these types of airlines can add up if you’re not careful.) And beginning December 11, Copa Airlines will become the only carrier to provide nonstop service between Denver and Panama; flights will run four days a week.
