AFA Coach Removes Controversial Banner

Air Force Academy football coach Fisher DeBerry responded to the new Academy superintendent's crackdown on official expressions of preference for Christianity at the school by putting up a banner in the team's locker room reading "I am a member of Team Jesus Christ." That was a display of disobedience to authority that probably only the football coach could even imagine would be tolerated at a military academy. DeBerry has now agreed to remove the banner. Given that the team's season is now over, DeBerry's concession is largely symbolic. It will be interesting to see whether the new administration at the Academy will continue to tolerate DeBerry after this very public display of dissent from the school's stated policy.
