Summer Tradition: Palisade Peach Festival

There's only one thing that beats picking up an aromatic bag of juicy Colorado peaches at the farmers' market: A trip to the peach orchards on the Western Slope. And this weekend is the time to go, as the small town of Palisade hosts its annual Peach Festival. At this glorified farmers' market for peaches, vendors sell their straight-from-the-tree fruit, and locals put on recipe competitions, peach eating contests, and cook-offs. Bonus: Have Colorado peaches on hand? Read 31 Days of Peaches for dining ideas. Thursday-Sunday, times vary. Locations vary, Palisade. $3.
