Gotta Have It: Blue Bell Ice Cream
Having recently tasted the much-sought-after Blue Bell ice cream, I count myself a fan. The elusive (in Colorado, anyway) treat lived up to all the hype---as in, outside of homemade, it's some of the best ice cream I've ever tasted.
The Texas company's smooth and creamy recipe has more in common with frozen custard than traditional ice cream---and it's addictive. To find Blue Bell in Denver, hit the Russell Stover Candies on South Colorado Boulevard and choose from either hand-dipped cones or take-home quarts in flavors ranging from cake batter and cookie dough to black walnut and strawberry.
Tip: A quart of the rich vanilla is just the a la mode your homemade Memorial Day pie deserves.

This is funny how I drove by Russel Stover Candies a few times and was wondering how that Blue Bell ice cream tasted, because I saw a board advertising it out front. Considering there's a whole blog on it, I will have to give it a shot sometime soon. This must definitely be a sign!

Being from Texas, I have had Blue Bell's Homemade Vanilla stocked in my freezer as far back as I could remember as a child. On a first grade field trip we toured the infamous creamery in Brenham, Texas. I moved to the Denver Area a month ago, and on my first grocery shopping trip, I was devastated to not find the gold-rimmed paper gallons in the freezer section. On a short day-trip to Estes Park with a fellow Texan friend, we discovered a small Blue Bell ice cream shop on the main strip. It was like a cathedral choir singing over my head when I spotted it.

I can't belive I'm finding a blog about Blue Bell ice cream. Been eating it since I was a child (I'm a Texan). Best ice cream around, better than the national brand ice creams.
