Pizza Biz: Toppings

5280's office sits in the dead center of LoDo's evolving pizza alley. We've got our old stand-by (and newly renovated) Wazee Supper Club to the west and the new kids Lucky Pie and Wazee Wood Fire Pizza to the east. Each shop has its own take on the crust, sauce, and toppings combo. But, if you wander a block south to Blake Street, another pizza joint is serving cheap pies for any range of tastes.

Toppings, a local startup, opened its doors on 17th and Blake in the end of April. The draw: Hand-tossed pizzas with as many toppings as your heart desires. The “artisan,” “ultrathin,” and “gluten-free” crusts lay the foundation for seven sauce choices (go for the Toppings original) and a seemingly infinite number of topping possibilities. No worries about limiting yourself to the standard pepperoni when at no additional cost you can toss on more than 40 options such as artichokes, mushrooms, roasted garlic, poblano pepper, Canadian bacon, and three different cheeses.

When your pie is piled high, the cook time takes about 90 seconds. From register to out the door, you can get your Toppings fix in under five minutes—and for less than $12 with a side salad and a drink.
