Wild, Wild Web

Our totally subjective, highly opinionated, and completely practical guide to the smart, interesting, eminently useful, and downright entertaining websites coming out of Colorado today.

FOOD

www.userealbutter.com
Jen Yu wraps her irreverent blogger tone—used to describe her personal experiences in Colorado and beyond, and to mostly talk about food, restaurants, ingredients, and recipes—around food photography worthy of Saveur or Bon Appétit.
|| Hot Click The recipe section of the site not only offers quick tips but also uses photographs to show you what you might be doing wrong.

www.thepersistentpalate.wordpress.com
Ashley Hausman's sometimes long-winding prose is chock-full of useful wine-related musings and recommendations. The website's tagline reads "honest sips from a wine novice;" however, Hausman obviously knows how to talk the talk with ruminations like this: "Oodles of raspberries, spices, pepper and dried violets fell from the nose and translated well on the palate."

http://blogs.westword.com/cafesociety
This Denver foodie's Web destination reminds us a bit of Thesuperficial.com—witty, snarky, smart, relevant, and rife with NSFW images after the jumps. Westword's bloggers serve up recipes from local chefs alongside blurbs about the best tattoos among the city's restaurant peeps. It's a mixed bag, but it's fun nonetheless.

www.gastrocart.com/blog
If you've never made the trip to 18th and Curtis streets to the Gastro Cart, you're missing out on one of Denver's culinary delights (gyros anyone?). If you are a fan, check out Mike Winston and Bryan Hume's (co-owners and chefs) regular online reflections on workdays spent grilling on a downtown street corner.
|| Hot Click The duo's regular tweets (accessible from the blog or at twitter.com/gastrocart) give potential diners an idea of the day's special.

www.frontrangefood gardener.blogspot.com
Need to know which veggies thrive at altitude? Wanna know when to till your soil? Have no idea why your blueberries won't grow in Colorado? Carl Wilson, a horticulturist with Colorado State University, answers all (OK, most) of your most pressing gardening questions in this easy-to-read blog.

www.fromargentinawithlove.typepad.com
Denver resident Rebecca Caro has been waxing poetic about Argentine cuisine since marrying her South American husband, who hails from Mendoza. Her blog, an ode to the country's culture, food, and wine, mixed with reflections on life in Denver, has received press not only from this magazine, but also from the Food Network and Seriouseats.com.
|| Hot Click Check the events section for updates on when Caro might be teaching her next Argentine cooking class at the Seasoned Chef Cooking School.
