The changing seasons mean that we’re keen to keep a little more change in our pocket. Here, 10 ways to keep your bank balance up this month.
1. Hike: Fall Color Treks
Why you should go: There is only a (very) short amount of time when the mountains turn gold. Make sure to see it.
Give One Year of 5280 for just $16.
Details: Your pick, Colorado
2. LISTEN: America’s Story: A Community Conversation with Award-Winning Journalist Maria Hinojosa
Why you should go: You’ll feel like you’re sitting in a college lecture hall again, and get to build a community discussion about race, identity, and history. This event already has a waitlist, but it’s worth putting your name down in case a seat becomes available.
3. GET INVOLVED: Viva Lyons
Why you should go: A year after floods devastated Lyons, Oskar Blues Brewery and the Infamous Stringdusters are teaming up to raise funds to aid recovery. If you open your wallet, this event won’t be free, but your donations will help rebuild Colorado (bonus!).
4. STROLL: Explore the Rocky Mountain Arsenal
Why you should go: When football games wreck your getaway plans for the weekend, this near-to-Denver hiking spot will satisfy your hike quota.
Details: Your choice, Rocky Mountain Arsenal
5. NOSH: Pueblo’s Chile and Frijoles Festival
Why you should go: You’ll have to pay for road-trip gas (and you probably won’t be able to resist the food stands), but thankfully, smelling roasting peppers—a true sign of fall—is free.
6. EXCHANGE: Fall Bulb Swap
Why you should go: Too many irises in your backyard? Bring in your extras (and other perennials) to swap for someone else’s—and then get planting.
7. SWEAT: Civic Center MOVES
Why you should go: Switching the lunch-at-your-desk ritual with a yoga session in the park is a very good idea.
8. RIDE: Denver Cruiser Ride’s Denver Bike Night
Why you should go: The ride’s theme is “Ullr Fest: Winter Wonderland,” and given the group’s creativity, you’ll likely to see more polar bears than parkas.
9. WATCH: 11th Annual Festival Italiano at Belmar
Why you should go: Flag throwers, two stages, and grape stomping. That’ll do it.
Details: September 6-7, Belmar
10. TOUR: Denver’s Public Art
Why you should go: The Mile High City’s public art scene is controversial and too much fun. Take a self-guided tour using 5280‘s itinerary.
Details: Your pick, Denver
