Street Closures Announced for Democratic National Convention

The DNCC Host Committee today announced some street closures (pdf) for the Democratic National Convention. First, the good news:

“We have said from the beginning that – while there will be some additional screening procedures and security measures in some locations – all downtown residents will be able to access their homes and parking garages, and downtown businesses will be able to remain open with access to employees and customers.

Now, the closures (these don’t include those for the day of Sen. Barack Obama’s Invesco Field acceptance speech which haven’t been finalized yet):

Suggested alternatives to and from downtown: Martin Luther King Blvd, 18th Avenue, 13th Avenue, and 8th Avenue. Also, 20th Ave and Park Avenue West. Light rail won’t be affected and while bus service will run as usual, the routes may be altered. As to bagged parking meters:

The majority of downtown street meters will remain unbagged and available for public use. (Please note that vehicles with disability placards may park at any unbagged meter for up to four hours – whether or not the meter is designated for disabled parking).
