Charities in Colorado Are Struggling


This week, hundreds of charities will gather in Denver for a two-day summit to discuss a range of topics, from how to boost morale in tough times to saving money amid layoffs, according to 7News. Blame the bad economy. A Mile High United Way survey of 70 charities that help the city’s poor finds that 85 percent of Denver’s nonprofits face higher demand at a time when 44 percent are struggling with declining donations, writes the Denver Business Journal , which notes the survey is the “clearest picture yet” of how the recession is affecting nonprofits. Moreover, 29 percent of the nonprofits surveyed have had to cut staff.
