Not One More, Be More at the Museo de las Americas

On the surface, this artistic gathering at the Museo de las Americas looks like a typical gallery get-together. Light appetizers. Drawings about a controversial subject (teen pregnancy). And hundreds of dollars flying between artists and their sponsors. But these aren’t the imagined works of trained artists. They’re pieces by actual teens affected by the realities of pregnancy. Via their works, students from Kepner Middle School, Lincoln High School, and West High School grapple with the real issues they face: How to get formula for their babies. How their friends (and families) treat them once they are pregnant. What it is like to be a father without a high school diploma. The show is put on in conjunction with the nationally recognized Denver Teen Pregnancy Prevention Partnership and will award the top three artists $1,000, $500, and $200, respectively, while putting a face on the challenging issues that shape our youth community. Thu, May 7, 6-8 p.m. Free Museo de las Americas, 861 Santa Fe Dr., 303-571-4401
