The three-week-old Denver Pizza Company may be just a kitchen and a counter, but the simple set-up dishes up a slice of Colorado nonetheless. The thin, cracker-like-crust pies are made from a 70-year-old, high-altitude recipe and come with locally inspired names, like the Avalanche, the Cripple Creek, and the Boulder.
Started by CU grad Mark Huebner (you may recognize him from the current season of The Bachelorette) and a handful of pizza-loving buddies, the shop offers delivery and carry-out in the Golden Triangle.
Not surprisingly, we ordered the 5280: buffalo mozzarella, pepperoni, mushrooms, and a “special blend of 5280 spices” from Spice Boys of the Rockies. Best eaten quickly, the simple flavor combo is enhanced by the zesty pizza sauce and the crackly, chewy crust. In a word: Bravo.
Bonus: Check the website for coupons, like $3 off a large specialty pizza.
