How Michele Bachmann Wants You to Show Your Opposition to Health-Care Reform

bachmannWhen considering recent words from Congresswoman Michele Bachmann, keep in mind that one in four Coloradans skip out on recommended medical treatments because of the costs (via The Denver Post).

The Minnesota Republican told a gathering sponsored by the libertarian-minded Independence Institute that current efforts to reform health care could “destroy this country forever,” adding, “This cannot pass. What we have to do today is make a covenant, to slit our wrists, be blood brothers on this thing. This will not pass” (via The Colorado Independent).

Covering the controversial statement back in the Twin Cities, City Pages points out that Bachmann is known for her melodramatics: During a telephone town hall meeting last month with abortion opponents, she said the health-care reform “battle will be won—on our knees in prayer and fasting.”

Despite the strong language (or perhaps because of it), it seems the Bachmanns of the country are winning concessions from Democrats. When Congress returns to session next week, Democrats are unlikely to pursue a massive overhaul of the system, according to experts who cite political and public opposition (via The Denver Post). Look for one of those piecemeal plans instead.
