Lindsey Vonn’s Downhill Dominance

It speaks to Lindsey Vonn‘s incredible regularity that her latest accomplishments aren’t bigger news. The downhill skier from Vail pulled off a World Cup trifecta over the weekend, clinching overall titles in the super-G, super combined, and downhill (Vancouver Sun). The wins come despite a season halted by a February concussion that forced Vonn to withdraw from several races. The Associated Press notes this is Vonn’s fourth consecutive downhill title, a remarkable run in a sport with so many variables.

“To be consistent is what those titles show,” says U.S. coach Alex Hoedlmoser. “Always being on the top in downhill for four years. It’s very, very impressive and she can be really proud of that.” Vonn isn’t satisfied, though, and would rather claim a fourth straight overall title. That could be tough, considering her 136-point deficit to good friend Maria Riesch with just seven races to go, but Vonn says Riesch’s success is only pushing her.
