Get Involved: Our Top Picks for November 11-November 17

Get Involved is a weekly series pointing readers toward community-oriented events, volunteer opportunities, and good causes in Colorado.

It’s officially holiday season, and we’re reminded it’s better to give than receive. But there’s no reason you can’t do both this week. Here, a host of events to help put your name on the “nice” list.

Strut the catwalk: Save a cat, and look good doing it. Happy Cats Haven, a no-kill cat shelter in Colorado Springs, is hosting a fashion show and vintage clothing auction with more than 700 items. All donations from the free event receive matching funds from Indy Give. Sat. 7-10 p.m.; 515 Manitou Ave., Manitou Springs

Give a gift: Denver’s Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children and Neiman Marcus host a holiday gift-giving party, with a silent auction, cocktails, appetizers, and holiday music. Proceeds help support abused and neglected children in the Denver juvenile court system. Fri. 5:30-8 p.m.; 3030 E. 1st Ave.

Transform: Check some names off your gift list early while helping Denver women. On Tuesday, Women’s Bean Project and Ms. Colorado State Michelle Marie will host an open house to showcase the Project’s handmade jewelry collection. WBP employs women struggling with poverty, and the jewelry they sell helps transition them to self-sufficiency. Tue. 5:30-7:30 p.m.; 3201 Curtis St.

Donate: Bring your canned food to Swoozie’s, and partake in a soiree with espresso, sparkling wine, and other snacks. Don’t have time to attend the party? You can donate directly to a number of Denver-area food banks. Sun. noon-5 p.m.; 589 Fillmore St.

Sleep out: Help raise awareness for youth homelessness by joining Attention Homes for a night on their Boulder headquarters lawn. You can get a taste of the uncertainty too many teens face on the Denver streets every night, and pledge to help make a difference. Thursday night; 15th and Spruce Streets, Boulder
