Fort Collins To Revamp Bike Lanes

Fort Collins will give cyclists a little more breathing room on its roads with a plan to reconfigure bike-only lanes on the city’s newly paved streets.

The city is experimenting with revamped bike lanes that will include a painted, hatch-marked strip to separate cyclists from vehicle drivers. The buffer, city officials have said, will extend between two and three feet beyond the bike lane.

The Coloradoan reports the bike-lane project should make cyclists more comfortable sharing the road with vehicles and less inclined to ride on sidewalks—and could also reduce crashes.
