7 Questions With: Denver Mayor Michael Hancock

Fresh off his victory in the election, Mayor Michael Hancock talks to 5280 about his second term, Denver's growth, and how he balances work and family. 


On May 5, Denver residents overwhelmingly re-elected Mayor Michael Hancock to lead the city, with more than 80 percent of the vote. While his victory was all-but-guaranteed leading up to the election with no viable challengers, the mayor faces some defining issues in his second term—the city’s elaborate growth and its dearth of affordable housing, development challenges, and strained relationships between the police and the citizens chief among them. 5280 spoke with the mayor outside his office at the City and County building just before the election to learn about his plans to address these issues, what he hopes to accomplish in the next four years, and how he balances his career and family life.
