Virtual Doc & Talk | Every Thursday
During Black History Month, the Denver Public Library’s Doc & Talk weekly series will feature four documentaries focusing on Black voices or race issues. The program explores the lives of acclaimed artists like gospel legend and civil rights activist Mavis Staples, and celebrated artist Jean-Michel Basquiat. Each film will be easily accessible here, to watch at your convenience—all you need is your Denver Public Library card. If you’re interested in engaging in discussions about each film, online video chats will take place each Thursday at 7 p.m. through Google Meet.

Sci-Fi & Citizenship with Adelita Husni-Bey | February 10
Artist Adelita Husni-Bey will lead the final program of MCA Denver’s Practicing Citizenship series with Sci-Fi & Citizenship: A Workshop on Speculative Fiction. In this virtual conversation, Husni-Bey will discuss her approach to futurism as a political strategy and how we can visualize our future selves. The workshop, which will be held over Zoom at 5 p.m., invites audience members to participate in Husni-Bey’s exercises.

‘2019-2020’ by Shadows Gather | February 5 through March 13
Shadows Gather, the Denver photographer known for capturing the city’s punk, drag, and LGBTQ community, will showcase her work at the Dateline Contemporary Art Gallery  for the first time with her exhibition, ‘2019-2020.’ Shadow’s original iPhone flashlight-lit photos will be displayed with a selection enlarged to show realistic details like scratches, lipstick smudges, or dirt. The exhibition will be on display through March 14 as part of Denver’s Month of Photography. 3004 Larimer Street

Virtual Mardi Gras & Live Broadcast Party | February 13
KGNU Community Radio and Colorado Friends of Cajun-Zydeco Music and Dance (CFCZ) is taking their Mardi Gras & Live Broadcast Party virtual this year. The near decade-long Mardi Gras tradition will include celebratory Mardi Gras music, dancing, costume contest, and a zydeco dance lesson taught on-air and through Zoom starting at 7 p.m. RSVP for the event here.

Chamber Serenades | February 14
For an alternative Valentine’s Day plan, tune into Denver’s Young Artists Orchestra’s performance of Chamber Serenades—a collection of calm and cheerful melodies. Starting at 4 p.m., the virtual concert will perform Samuel Coleridge-Taylor’s “Novelletten” and Igor Stravinsky’s “Symphonies for Wind Instruments,” among other selections. The concert will be broadcast on DYAO’s YouTube and Facebook pages.

Loveland Sweetheart Festival | February 13–15
Loveland, the nation’s “Sweetheart City,” is reimagining its Valentine’s Day festivities for this year’s Sweetheart Festival. The outdoor, socially distant event includes the Something Red in Downtown Loveland art installations, a scavenger hunt, a viewing of the community mural, and the annual Sweetheart Classic race.
