An assisted-suicide ring, charged after allegedly helping a Georgia man kill himself, possibly operated in several states, including Colorado, according to The Washington Post, which reports that even “right-to-die” advocate Dr. Jack Kevorkian has distanced himself from the Georgia-based Final Exit Network because they are not using physicians in their operations. Investigators say the group, which aims to support people suffering from incurable diseases and intolerable pain, apparently participated in the suicides of 200 people around the country, showing them how to use a plastic hood and helium tanks to suffocate themselves. Search warrants were carried out at 14 sites in nine states, including Colorado. In a statement on its website, the group says the four members who were charged “are innocent and will be exonerated.”
