Good beer deserves good food—at least, that’s the philosophy at Boulder’s Avery Brewing Company, which teamed up with Savory Cuisines two months ago to feed the tap room’s clientele. Savory may be known as a catering company, but its entry onto the dining scene came last summer when it opened a gourmet take-out window.
Its well-edited Avery menu includes salads, sandwiches, pizza, and burgers. I chose to focus on the appetizer section. The sweet potato tots, topped with pork green chile, are straightforward and delicious. But the homemade jalapeño poppers are the true stars. Unlike the bland versions found at most pubs, Savory uses whole peppers (stem and all) filled with a spicy mix of cream cheese, cheddar, Jack, caramelized onions, and green chile. Dip each bite into the accompanying tomatillo sour cream and chipotle-raspberry jam for a cool contrast to the fried nuggets.

Bonus: Every menu item includes a suggested beer pairing. My advice: Order the sample size. It’s a smaller pour (four ounces), cheaper (at just $1), and allows you to taste a variety.
