You can spot a food lover easily: He or she A) talks mostly about his/her last meal, B) ponders where he/she should eat next, and C) wants to know your favorite restaurants/cookbooks/recipes. I’m willing to bet that the audience at this weekend’s Feed Your Soul: Stories From the Kitchen series will be jammed with some serious food-talking folks.

The show (which takes place at the Dairy Center for the Arts in Boulder on Saturday and at Su Teatro in Denver on Sunday) is a foodie version of Stories on Stage, a theater company celebrating the power of the written word read out loud.

Professional actors will read four food-minded stories including an excerpt from New York chef Gabrielle Hamilton‘s revealing memoir Blood, Bones & Butter: The Inadvertent Education of a Reluctant Chef and writer Wright Thompson‘s essay Yancey’s Red Hots, an ode to the best tamales ever. (This piece was anthologized, along with my story Soul Food, in the 2010 edition of Best Food Writing). There will also be a local slant with anecdotes from Denver chef-restaurateur Jennifer Jasinski (Rioja, Bistro Vendôme, Euclid Hall, and author of The Perfect Bite cookbook) and Boulder’s Antonio Laudisio (Laudisio Italian Restaurant).

Bonus: The Stories on Stage crew is putting together a dessert tasting of goodies from local bakeries and cooking schools.
