If you have a wicked arm in softball or a way with a paintbrush, you might be just the volunteer Denver Adaptive Recreation needs. The program works with people with disabilities from veterans to small children. Throughout the year, Adaptive Recreation engages their clients with Olympic-type sports, arts and crafts, museum visits, and more.
This summer’s Special Olympics training is nearing its end, but sign up now to be a coach for the fall sports—bowling, volleyball, and flag football—that start in September and last through November. You’ll have the opportunity to train an athlete for 10 weeks that lead to local contests, and possibly the state competition. “I have seen some of our participants over the past 15 years grow from a small child to an adult,” says director Leah Huffer-Solomon. “And I get to be a part of that. I know the things they’ve accomplished.”
That's only $1 per issue!
Get Involved: Come support Denver Adaptive Recreation at Pedal for Pennies—a fundraiser for its cycling team—at City Park on July 3 from 4-9 p.m. Can’t make it? You can call 720-865-0820 for volunteer information.
