That is the number of Coloradans ages 18 to 25 registered to vote, as of February—the lowest number of any age group. Inspire Colorado, which launched in Denver this past July, recruits about 50 high schoolers a year to organize voter-registration drives at their schools. In return, students get a chance to interact with a variety of civic leaders, from candidates and elected officials to regular citizens. This month, that means discussing issues that matter to young people—such as rising student debt—with members of the Legislature at the Colorado state Capitol. But you don’t have to be Governor John Hickenlooper to help out: Inspire Colorado is always looking for politically savvy Coloradans to serve as mentors.
