As 5280’s health and wellness columnist (and a Vinyasa addict), I’ve been to my fair share of yoga classes across the Front Range. Some get me sweating; some make me calmer; and some—like those at CorePower Yoga—do both.
But what the Denver-based yoga studio chain does particularly well is create partnerships. By connecting with organizations like Great Divide Brewing Co. and Free People, CPY helps build and diversify its member base; it has expanded to 19 states and the District of Columbia in the 14 years since the first CPY location opened, on Grant Street, in 2002. And you are the true winners, thanks to the free classes, discounts, and beer offered through CPY’s relationships. Here, three of our favorite upcoming CPY special sessions.
Give One Year of 5280 for just $16.
Go for: A CorePower Yoga–inspired class in Ace’s ping-pong room that’s taught by Tim Samp, the manager for CPY’s Cherry Hills location
Stay for: Ping-pong, Dim Sum, and other food and cocktail specials
Tip: Arrive early. If you just read that and thought, “Oh, 15 minutes in advance should be enough,” it’s not. The room will be packed regardless, but it’s your call whether you get stuck awkwardly navigating around the bolted-to-the-floor tables or not.
12:30–4 p.m.; Ace Eat Serve, 501 E. 17th Ave.; 303-800-7705
Go for: A candlelit, level two class taught by Kathryn Smith, CPY’s lead yoga instructor in the Denver region
Tip: Register ahead of time (the space only fits 70) and bring your own mat.
6–9:30 p.m.; Blanc, 3150 Walnut St.; 303-974-7487
Go for: An all-levels community class taught by Lara Gobins, the studio manager for CPY’s newest location (in RiNo)
Stay for: The beer, obviously. Proceeds from any flights you purchase at Great Divide’s Barrel Bar will benefit local charities. The beer served after the next class on February 3 will support Denver Urban Gardens and the GrowHaus.
Tip: The bartenders will cut you off at 10 p.m., but that’s probably for the best on a Wednesday night.
6–7 p.m.; Barrel Bar & Packaging Wonderland, 1812 35th St.; 303-296-9460
