Why stop a good thing? Motherhood Out Loud‘s original January-February run was met with so many sold-out performances and praise, Director Bob Wells and Avenue Theater Group Executive Director Nuri Heckler decided the show must go on.
Motherhood Out Loud is a collective of vignettes telling the tales of moms across the country, and perhaps the world. The mothers—played by LuAnn Buckman, Mehry Eslaminia, Megan Heffernan, Cindy Laudadio-Hill, and Jane Shirley—capture the quintessential mom moments from severe sleep deprivation and dealing with snarky playground moms to the mother-in-law/daughter-in-law relationship and mother to daughter advice on parenting. We’d be remiss to leave out the cast’s lone male, Jeff Kosloski, who fills the shoes of straight fathers, gay fathers, grandfathers, and sons everywhere.
That's only $1 per issue!
At the time, every parenting situation seems so serious, but this cast unveils the funny in all the kid-raising debacles. The hilarity of the language spewed by laboring mothers-to-be and the forced explanations of rap lyrics is grounded with the exploration of tougher parental situations like when your baby boy wants to dress up like a princess, helping your autistic child navigate the dating world, and dealing with the realities of your kid who has dedicated their life to serve our country. You’ll inevitably find yourselves in one of these universal vignettes as a mother, father, or child.
In the spirit of quick-approaching Mother’s Day, performances have been extended until May 12. The Mother’s Day show caps the run with a special $52 ticket that includes admission to the show and brunch at the Avenue Grill across the street. Check the Avenue Theater Group’s website for remaining performances.
