If funding your caffeine habit leaves you with pangs of guilt, ease your conscience and head to the newly opened Global Goods and Coffee Shop in Olde Town Arvada. Here, your hard-earned cash does a world of good: $2.85 not only buys a cappuccino, it helps fund Global Refuge, a nonprofit with a mission to “provide an emergency lifeline to victims of war, infectious disease, and disaster.”
Started by Global Refuge founder, Brian McNeely (who was once an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the CU Buffs), Global Goods utilizes local volunteers to keep its costs low. This ensures that the bulk of profits go directly to help those in need, particularly in Burma and Uganda, where McNeely has volunteered. McNeely passed on his philanthropic values to his daughter, LoriAnne, who he has hired to bake, cook, and manage the kitchen. To her credit, LoriAnne turns out an ever-changing array of baked goods, breakfast sandwiches, burritos, and panini to pair with a deep menu of espresso drinks, teas, chai, and smoothies.
Give One Year of 5280 for just $16.
Grab a spot on the comfy couch inside the old Victorian or pull up a chair in the middle of the sunny flower garden. Sip a smooth, Boulder-based Brewing Market espresso and indulge in LoriAnne’s excellent guava and cheese croissants (if you can get them), homemade biscotti, or decadent cinnamon-chocolate muffins. Think of it as a (nearly) guilt-free indulgence.
