Colorado swimming prodigy Missy Franklin gets only a brief brief break following her historic U.S. Swim Trials run before she reports this weekend to Team USA’s training camp in Knoxville, Tennessee. The team of 23 men and 26 women will stay in Tennessee until July 14, then will spend eight days training in France before arriving in London on July 23.
Franklin, a 17-year-old senior at Regis Jesuit High School, qualified for seven Olympic events at last week’s trials. No American female swimmer has competed at more than six events in one Olympics.

After the trials, both Franklin and Michael Phelps were chosen as the event’s top swimmers. (I profiled the high schooler in last month’s issue of 5280.) Among those who will join Franklin on Team USA is her friend Kara Lynn Joyce, who will compete in the 50-meter freestyle in London. Joyce joined Franklin’s club team, the Colorado Stars, last year, but left the team this spring to train in North Carolina.
