The Greeley man who was held in 2008 after allegedly plotting the assassination of President Barack Obama was sentenced to 10 years in prison yesterday for a theft scheme in 2007. The Greeley Tribune reports that Shawn Robert Adolf is also required to pay $88,000 in restitution. Adolf was indicted for seeking to steal heavy equipment and vehicles as part of the scheme. He pleaded guilty in October to theft, a class three felony. A federal criminal complaint filed in 2008 claimed Adolf sought to kill Obama on his inauguration day using a sniper rifle with a high-powered scope. But Troy Eid, the U.S. attorney in Colorado at the time, declined to file charges against Adolf and his associates, saying there was a difference between a “true threat…and the reported racist rantings of illegal drug-users” (via The Denver Post).
