Support for Mayor John Hickenlooper’s new Denver Justice Center is growing. Appearing at a Denver rally at the City and County building Sunday, Senator Ken Salazar and former DA Bill Ritter planted themselves firmly in the corner of the new jail.
“Standing here with my brothers and sisters in law enforcement reminds how hard they work on a daily basis to keep our community safe,” Salazar said. “I am proud to join the law enforcement community in asking you to vote yes on 1A.”

Former Denver DA Bill Ritter said,
“That is no way to run a justice system.”
Their support is not a suprise since both are former law enforcement executives and law enforcement strongly supports the new justice center project. The Denver Post reports that 60% of the jail’s inmates are being held on felony offenses – not serving sentences for misdemeanor crimes.
Early voting is now open. You can find the arguments in favor of the new justice center at SafeDenver.com. The arguments against are at Failthe Jail.org. Mayor Hickenlooper presented his arguments in favor of the project in yesterday’s Post. Rosa Gonzales and Phil Cherner presented the opposing view.
