Bohemian chic is a look we see pretty much every spring, and for good reason. This feminine, romantic style is a favorite of designers and ladies alike: It easily works for a wide range of warm weather activities, whether you’re heading to a music fest, attending a bridal shower, or meeting friends for a barbeque. To get you ready for the warm weather ahead (or that upcoming beach vacay), we’ve rounded up our top clothing and accessory picks featuring folk-inspired embroideries, delicate lace and crochet, and fringe, tassel, and pompom details.
“Cashmere Queen” Margaret O’Leary opened a boutique in Cherry Creek North last July. It’s easy to see why the San Francisco-based designer’s work fits so well with Denver’s lifestyle: Her laid-back knitwear pieces are easy to incorporate into any modern wardrobe. But for spring, it’s her off-the-shoulder viscose Frida dress ($298, pictured above) with embroidery and tassel details that have us heading straight to her store. We’re pretty much coveting everything in designer Ulla Johnson’s Spring 2017 collection. It explores every bohemian embellishment, but in streamlined silhouettes, making this one line that skews more sophisticated than girly. This embroidered statement dress ($505) with laced bodice and tiered prairie skirt is a standout. Moxie, The Orchards, 5936 S. Holly St., 303-694-0773, moxieinstyle.com
Swarovski is taking fringe to an entirely new—and glam—level with their multi-color Guilty ear cuffs ($299). The pair gives you plenty of wearing options by combining cool and warm tones, as well as one short and one long cuff (asymmetry is also on-trend). Wear them without the fringe accent for a totally different look. Swarovski, Cherry Creek Shopping Center, 3000 E. First Ave., 303-321-4338, Swarovski.com
Fringe is also showing up on all kinds of sandal styles this season. This pair by cult favorite shoe brand K. Jacques ($375) comes in buttery soft lavender suede—a hue that complements this season’s wide range of earthy neutrals. Perch Denver, 2606 E. 3rd Ave, 720-381-0290, perchvail.com
If lace and crochet make you think of a vintage tablecloth, Ulla Johnson (once again) will change your mind with her sexy Lillia top ($897). Keep this modern interpretation looking up-to-date by pairing it with slouchy, wide leg, or boyfriend jeans in a light blue hue. Moxie, The Orchards, 5936 S. Holly St., 303-694-0773, moxieinstyle.com
Colorful geometric prints add a folk spirit to any boho look. LoveStitch’s Origami Makeup Bag with pompom accents ($48, various color options) is an adorable way to stash all your beauty essentials. Rustic Thread, 3716 W. 32nd Ave., 303-351-3535, rusticthread.com
If you’re looking to add a single key item to your wardrobe rotation, go for Velvet’s beaded and embroidered jacket ($158). The three-quarter sleeve and slightly slouchy shape make this piece easy to throw over fitted silhouettes, from a camisole to a tank top or even a slip dress. Rebel, Cherry Hills Marketplace, 5910 S. University Blvd., 720-283-1004, shoprebel.com
A colorful handbag is a must-have for any boho girl, and Colorado-based Wayuu Made will fill that need. The Wayuu people—the largest indigenous community in Colombia—have crocheted their handmade “mochila” bags or backpacks from cotton yarn for generations. Each one features a unique tapestry pattern and color palette, along with fringe and tassel accents. The bright, upbeat color combination of the Cali bag ($95) is one of our favorites. wayuumade.com
An artfully draped scarf is a great way to add a little extra style to any outfit. Plus, long ones can double as a wrap or pareo when on vacation (never travel without one!). White and Warren’s plush cashmere triangle version ($295) with hand-wrapped tassels and bright white trim is the perfect accent piece. Blush, 1411 Larimer St., 303-399-7779, shop-blush.com
Denver has plenty of sunny days, so a stylish hat is a must-have accessory. The colorful and lightweight Bahia fedora ($250) by Eric Javits may be Brazilian-inspired, but this “straw” hat is actually made from a manmade fiber that can block 95 percent of UVA/UVB rays. We also like that it’s flexible, and thus will easily pack in a suitcase and still keep its shape. Nordstrom, Cherry Creek Shopping Center, 2810 E. First Ave., 720-746-2424, nordstrom.com
