What makes Green Lady Gardens different from your average garden shop? Walls in brilliant hues; Saltillo-tile floors; a salsa-music soundtrack; and stacks of pots and home textiles—inspired by owner Jessica Schutz’s love of Latin American cultures—make it feel like a tropical garden party for some 400 happy houseplants. Then there’s Schutz herself, who, since opening her doors in the Art District on Santa Fe in fall of 2018, has become known around town for her serious plant-whispering skills: She carefully matches customers with plants they’ll be able to keep alive. “I want houseplants to be a lifestyle, not just a fad,” she says. “It’s important that customers get the right plant and learn how to care for it long-term. Nobody leaves feeling less than confident.”
