Fall has just enveloped Colorado, and we’re already thinking about our winter wardrobes. In the Mile High City, that means looks that aren’t just fashionable—they need to be functional, too.
Clothing line prAna offers exactly that. The company, which started in 1992 by making climbing and yoga wear, is asserting a definite influence on mainstream fashion with the debut of its Fall 2012 outerwear collection. The line keeps functionality in mind, while mixing it up with standout pieces.

Prana, a Sanskrit word for breath, life, and vitality of spirit (you’ve heard it in yoga class), is the inspiration behind the line. “As a true lifestyle brand, we’re excited to now offer pieces that take our customers beyond their active pursuits and into their everyday lives,” says CEO Scott Kerslake. The company has always been committed to leaving the smallest environmental footprint possible, a feat it has achieved, in part, by purchasing wind power initiatives and using organic and fair-trade fabrics. The fabrics used in the collection are sustainable and performance-driven.
prAna calls its fall collection—which blends style, comfort, and function—“The Art of Living.” The Mischka jacket (pictured) hits several of this fall’s major trends with its fitted silhouette, layering effect, and bold, embellished patterns. The jacket is the active world’s answer to the parka—which we saw in Fall 2012 shows, including Burberry, Phillip Lim, and Altuzarra—and is perfect for Denver women who want to stay both warm and fashionable this winter.
In fact, it’s my favorite piece in the collection. I suggest pairing the jacket with your favorite skinny jeans rolled at the cuff and ankle booties to finish the look (or flat booties if the streets are extra icy). Whether you are heading to yoga or happy hour, the Mischka jacket is the perfect piece to keep active Denver women both comfy and stylish all winter.
